Fanlisting  *

A fanlisting, just as its name implies, is a listing of fans for a given topic. The concept was created by one person, Janine, some time ago. There is only one approved fanlisting per subject and all the approved fanlists make up an immense database at thefanlistings.org, which is manned by some 60 volunteers.
This particular fanlisting is the official fanlisting for Robin Goodfellow, or Puck, the knavish sprite of William Shakespeare's play, "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

Puck  *

Puck, also known as Robin Goodfellow, is a jester hobgoblin in the service of Oberon, King of the Fairies. His antics and mischievous exploits result in the vast majority of the play's complications. He mistakes the Athenian lovers and gives the wrong boy the love potion and more famously, decorates actor and weaver Nick Bottom's head with that of an ass'.
In a play full of contrasts and contradictions (ie. Titania, Queen of the Fairies, smitten with the ass-headed Yerf abomination Bottom), Puck embodies all of the qualities represented in both the fairy and mortal worlds.
He is magical, whimsical and clearly not of the mortal world but he is not as ethereal as the other fairies (in fact, he is often portrayed as a satyr) and as a jester of sorts, he is allowed a certain degree of coarseness in his actions.
"A Midsummer Night's Dream" has no true protagonist but Puck is often pointed out as being the most important character because of his ability to stand on this fine line dividing the two worlds of the narrative. At times, he borders on another boundary and even directly addresses the audience, thus verily becoming not only the middle ground between the fairies and mortals but between us and the play.

Why  *

Puck is delight on wheels. On paper he doesn't cover many pages, but he is one of the best known Shakespearean characters ever created and as such, I felt the quick-witted sprite deserved a proper site.
Hey, I rhymed.

Layout  *

This layout features images of the Puck-like character "Honeythorn Gump" from the movie, "Legend" which were found respectively: here and here.
The wandering white dots featured above use a javascript code, available from the javascript source.
The font used on the splash and link pages is called Amethyst Zucchini and may be found at a number of sites such as this one.
Any other text not written by myself featured on any of the subpages comes from the Folger Edition of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare.

Title  *

I wholeheartedly admit I had no ideas for a name with this site. "Offending Shadows" had a been a placeholder name and when came the time I needed a permanent one, I had nothing else, so I left it. The title references Puck's farewell to the audience when he says, "If we shadows have offended..."
