i am totally stuck between the two, too honestly. i spent over a
minute skipping the little radio button back and forth. *clickclick*
i'm still debating my choice. gak... pippin. of course he's pampered.
but i think he would be no different if he wasn't. maybe if his
background was completely different he would be a little less naive,
but i think most of his immaturity comes from inside, not from what
his family did. he obviously had some pressure, being the only son,
to be thain, but does he show it? does it bother him? do we see
any kind of internal conflict relating to this? or any kind of resentment
towards his family? no. of course not. it's not part of him. but
on the other hand, he is extremely naive for a good long while,
and since he does grow up, it isn't because his brain can't function
correctly. something in his previous existance kept him like that.
i'm done for the moment.
lse says: hooray! the first long elboration. it makes perfect sense, pippin was youthful at heart, probably always would be and naivette goes hand in hand with youth at times!

answer: no
he had three older sisters, doubtless he was pampered...but
spoiled? i think merry helped with taking that down...
he's used to an easy life, but so are all the hobbits, and you have
to remember he's only 29. he won't have to do much real work until 4 years later, so why worry?
i agree he'd be pampered...but not spoiled. he has a good attitude
and does think of others first.
lse says: you're only right when your right! pippin, even if pamper and naive was still good, it wasn't in his nature to be nasty.

answer: no
no, pip's not spoiled at all! he may be used to getting
his way, but he's still a child in some ways, and he just loves
adventure. he's like one of those rich children who would rather
roll in the mud than have their fancy clothes. that's just pippin!
lse says: aw, this answer is the most darling ever! agreed, that is pippin! ho ho ho.

answer: yes
no doubt material objects couldn't buy his happiness: he was driven
to a life of crime and theft...
he seems a bit naive to the workings of the outer world; he must have been sheltered.
lse says: i knew i had seen his face on unsolved mysteries! oh my god it took me forever to figure out your answer. at first i thought you were joking then i remembered, "oh yeah... stealing the veggies... fotr... oh yeah." i'm a twit!
name: alice
answer: no
pippin is my boi.
lse says: and you must be very proud of him? ...
name: lauren
answer: no
i don't think pippin is really that spoiled, because
well i just don't think he is etc.

lse says: hmm, i guess that makes sense, etc.
name: emily
answer: yes
perhaps not spoiled, but you've gotta think that someone
from such an upper-class family would be pampered and maybe a bit
sheltered. now, granted, pippin is a took, which accounts for a
bit of natural adventurousness and curiosity in the first place.
but some of the things he does (causing the noise in moria, picking
up the palantir) shows that he's not exactly knowledgable about
adventure etiquette- therefore sheltered from such things by a high-class upbringing.
lse says: adventure etiquette! i love it. it's like pippin is an adventure intern. you can see aragorn rolling his eyes at the young took.
name: molly
answer: no
under the circumstances, one would think
pippin would be spoiled, but i just don't see the arrogant, spoiled
young child one would expect in pippin. it just doesn't seem to apply... not well, anyway.
lse says: but wouldn't it be funny if he threw a fit once or twice when he was with the fellowship? he probably did, then just snipped the written record bits out of the red book which was kept in the library of the great smials. pippin, you dog.
and so it rests! until next time-
