general questions

what be thy name?
rachel.

where do you currently reside?
canada.

have you read "the lord of the rings" novels? if so, which is your favourite book and why?
yes, i like 'the two towers' because i personally found it most interesting (in books, battles aren't the most exiting thing) and also because it has a lot with pippin.

have you seen the film versions? how many times? why?
i've only seen 'the fellowship of the ring' and i've seen it about a hundred times, because lotr rules!!!!

is pippin your favourite character?
pippin and aragorn are about tied. i like 'em both!!

book questions

describe how you imagine pippin.
just how he is in the movie; a curious little hobbit who shouldn't even be there (because he's too young) who will stand by frodo (no so much as sam though!) he has a great friendship with merry and also gets into quite a bit of trouble ;)

what was your initial response to pippin's character?
a young hobbit o_o.

what in his character do you like?
everything!!!

what do you dislike?
um...

what do you consider pippin's strongest suit?
probably his friendship with meriadoc.

what are his weaknesses?
"they come in pints??? i'm getting one!" in other words: beer.

to what degree did pippin's tookish nature play into his leaving the shire? was pippin searching for something when he left, or was it purely to help frodo?
i don't know, probably searching for adventure.

what purpose did pippin have with the fellowship?
many would say that he was just a decoy as the ring bearer, but i know better.

what would have happened if he had been left behind? how would he be different? how would the others be different?
the hobbits would gotten very depressed, merry may have never escaped the uruk-hai and many other things.

how does the grand adventure change pippin?
he goes from a regular sized hobbit to a four-foot six-inch hobbit and he gains some confidence.

was pippin unsure of himself at the beginning of the tale?
i think he was more so unsure of himself in the middle.

does pippin have a hero? who and why?
yes, probably merry, merry is his best friend, that just happens to be older.

describe how you see pippin's relationship with merry.
it's very hard to have one without the other. i'm imagining pippin when he goes to minas tirith, looking over his shoulder to talk to merry, or ask him for advice (and the same thing with merry).

do you think merry was ever disappointed in his cousin (ie during the palantír incident)?
probably was ;)

what do you think gandalf felt towards the young took? what was their relationship?
gandalf loves pippin, but the took bugs the spit out of him.

do you think gandalf was particularly hard on pippin? why?
sometimes maybe, but not always.

when the fellowship first meets galadriel it is said, "each had felt he was offered a choice between a shadow of fear that lay ahead, and something he greatly desired: clear before his mind it lay, and to get it he had only to turn aside from the road and leave the quest and the war against sauron and the others." what do you think pippin was offered?
um... i have no idea.

what do you think boromir represented to pippin?
someone who was just part of the fellowship to get a good name from his people, but would protect them to his death.

how did the death of boromir affect pippin?
pippin probably felt that it was his fault because he ran off only to get attacked by the uruk-hai.

why do you think faramir so moved pippin?
not a clue :o

what do you think motivated pippin to swear fidelity to gondor?
um... pressure?

was it appropriate pippin ended up serving denethor, not théoden? why?
it's a better thought that he would have served théoden, but that's because denethor bothers me bad! but it may have been better for the fellowship, that what happened, did.

when pippin was confronted with death during the battle before the black gates, how do you feel he reacted?
scared :o

why do you think pippin later named his son after faramir, not boromir?
maybe he felt that boromir was to mush like his dad, although i'm not sure if pippin liked denethor or not, i just know that i don't.

how do you imagine pippin as a father?
loving, caring and playful.

in the end, what do you feel pippin lost and what did he gain from his journey?
he probably lost some of his adventurous spirit, and didn't want to go on any more and he gained courage, skill and cool armor :)

favourite scene or quote?
in the book, it was when he tricked the uruk-hai.

film questions

how do you think pippin was portrayed in the movie?
good????

many felt pippin in the film came off as "stupid," do you agree?
gah! never! just young (he wasn't an adult yet, can you blame him?).

did you enjoy the performance of billy boyd as pippin? how so?
yup!!!

did you think pippin's character was slighted in the two towers film?
never saw it.

how did you feel about pippin's enlarged role in rotk?
never saw it.

favourite scene or quote?
in fotr, hmm, ok i got it; "you need people of intelligence on this sorta mission ... quest ... thing" :-)

if you've seen the movie and read the books

which scene from the books which didn't make it into the film do you miss most?
how it was frodo that always stole the mushrooms ... well actually that part turned out hilarious so i would say tom bombadil.

was the pippin of the films accurate to the pippin you imagined?
i read the books after the movie came out so the pippin in the movie has always been the pippin in the book, and the other way around.

how did you feel about pippin not having his troll felling moment? did he prove himself otherwise?
i don't know.

dude, was that diamond at the end?
lol could have been, but like i said, i haven't seen rotk.

if you magically had the chance to change one thing concerning film pippin (be it action, line or trait) what would it be?
more parts :)

extra

can you think of think of any other questions which would be nice here?
how do you feel that 'the conspiracy' never made it to the film.

anything to say or ask about this site?
it's a cool site!

who's another favourite character (from anywhere, not just lotr) of yours, and why?
aragorn, and...

guest questions

do you think pippin was tolkien's favorite character? why or why not?
he was???? cool!!! um because he has a cute little 'oops, did i do that?' personality.

if you could say anything to billy about his performance, what would you say?
great job you were awesome!!! better than elijah, orlando, dominic and all of them!!!

how do you feel about most of the songs (ex: "the bath song") not making it into the whole of the theatrical release and only part of the extended edition?
pretty sad, but i wouldn't want to watch 3 guys in bath tubs anyway.

how would you imagine pippin felt about the marriage of his son faramir to sam's daughter goldilocks?
he was probably happy.

do you consider pippin a hero?
yes, at the end of the books he did a lot and other things.

lse says!

ha ha, i don't know if i am rummy or what, but that last answer of yours just made me laugh. the coolest answer ever! ahem. yes! battles are quite boring in books, though i secretly feel helm's deep was boring the novel and the film. the siege of gondor in the novel was exciting though, very involving at least.
ha, pippin never really was partial to sam, was he? pippin was such a snob when he wanted to be! wicked hobbit. serves him right his one and only son should marry sam's daughter, cosmic irony, that.
i like your theory about pippin's swearing fidelity to gondor. denethor: come on, everyone is doing it.
pippin: but-
denethor: ug, fine you're going to be a LOSER about it.
pippin: no! ok, ok, i won't be a loser, i'll swear fidelity.

p.s. you haven't seen rotk? why?
p.p.s. i also always wished the bit about frodo the KLEPTO made it in the film. pippin was the good hobbit who was friends with farmer maggot!
p.p.p.s. oh my god this is the 400th time i've opened your html file. i just wanted to point out, as far as i know, pippin was not tolkien's favourite character. that was a guest question, i have no way to support it. i've read, however, tolkien related the most to faramir.
