i read them after i saw the first movie so i see billy boyd.
what was your initial response to pippin's character?
sweet and young.
what in his character do you like?
he's charming and easy.
what do you dislike?
he is young and that does cause some hardships.
what do you consider pippin's strongest suit?
loyalty and friendship.
what are his weaknesses?
his youth.
to what degree did pippin's tookish nature play into his leaving the shire? was pippin searching for something when he left, or was it purely to help frodo?
he was curious, its hard to stay in one place your
whole life without wanting to see what else there is.
what purpose did pippin have with the fellowship?
he was the light.
what would have happened if he had been left behind? how would he be different? how would the others be different?
it wouldn't have worked, they were all needed.
how does the grand adventure change pippin?
he grows up, maybe too fast.
was pippin unsure of himself at the beginning of the tale?
he was sure of himself, but he had to prove his
worth so that others would be sure of him.
does pippin have a hero? who and why?
merry; sometimes you just grow up knowing someone special and then they go and prove it.
describe how you see pippin's relationship with merry.
close from the beginning i think, because
they love each other and need each other,
knowing the other survived helped each of them survive.
do you think merry was ever disappointed in his cousin (ie during the palantír incident)?
more scared for him and saddened by the fact
his younger cousin had to be involved in the quest.
what do you think gandalf felt towards the young took? what was their relationship?
he worried for him but knew that if pippin
just tried he could be an asset.
do you think gandalf was particularly hard on pippin? why?
yes, but only because so much was at stake
and like everyone else gandalf was scared.

the chance to be back in the shire with merry.

strength, friendship and someone who cared for him and took care of him.
how did the death of boromir affect pippin?
it could have crushed him but instead it gave him a goal to fight for.
why do you think faramir so moved pippin?
he fought with love and didn't give up; he was
like his brother but not as hardened.
what do you think motivated pippin to swear fidelity to gondor?
his loyalty and sadness for boromir.
was it appropriate pippin ended up serving denethor, not théoden? why?
yes, it gave he and merry a chance to prove themselves separately.
when pippin was confronted with death during the battle before the black gates, how do you feel he reacted?
he was strong.
why do you think pippin later named his son after faramir, not boromir?
boromir loved faramir and so honoring the one person boromir loved honored them both.
how do you imagine pippin as a father?
loving.

he lost his youth and innocence but gained a sense of self.

quite well.

no, he was comedic relief, but it was done well.
did you enjoy the performance of billy boyd as pippin? how so?
yes; he is a wonderful actor.

yes, he and merry were both left out a bit too much.

very happy, he was my favorite part.

his fight with the troll.

the film version is older.

i would have liked it to have been in the movie to
show that he could in fact do this.

i'd give him more scene time (and marry him off to merry).

boromir, obi-wan kenobi; they both have
that tragic hero thing going and they are slightly tarnished.

he could be, tolkien did give him a very important part of the story

so i was moved by all your merry loving.
me: aw... a merry fan.
then as i read on and on about merry and pippin (ie merry is pippin's hero etc) i bemused myself with thoughts, "i wonder if this person is a slash person?"
then i saw you wrote "no" to the diamond question, which is the only "no" the question has ever received (usually people write "lol" or something similar) and i thought, "whoa, that was a bit emphatic."
then the mystery was solved with the very next answer for in it you wrote you would marry off merry and pippin.
