general questions
what be thy name?
emmeline!!! or actually emily but i like emmeline better and i wish more people would call me that and not just one of my friends
who always calls me that. i am also known as em, m, emzalina, etc.
where do you currently reside?
northeastern ohio, usa. if you don't like the weather ah! i reside in greenwich, connecticut, not england... but
to myself, my kinsman and my best of friends it is known as the
shire (my friend lives in mirkwood).
have you read "the lord of the rings" novels? if so, which is your favourite book and why?
yes i have, and rotk is undoubtedly my favorite because...
yes! i have read all of them twice and plan on reading
them once a year... i am not so sure as to which is my favorite book.
i like the first one, but wait, i also like the second... and the third... oh well.
have you seen the film versions? how many times? why?
i saw the fellowship four times in theaters and god knows
how many times at home, i've seen the 2 towers five times in theaters
and again, god knows how many times after that and so far i've
only seen the rotk three times but that's because my parents are
sick of taking me. why?? because i am unhealthily addicted to them,
that's why and as for "how"... my dad is hopelessly in love with
the lord of the rings too so i can always convince him to take me!!
is pippin your favourite character?
pippin is definitely one of my favorite characters,
and i say "one" not because i like anyone better than him but because
all the characters are so awesome that i can't really pick! but
i pride myself on being very very very very very "smitten with pippin."
book questions
describe how you imagine pippin.
i imagined him short (duh) but skinny and rather
pale with black hair. if anyone thinks i'm weird, you're right,
because i don't' really pay attention to descriptions of people when
i read, i just form an image the minute i hear their name. (and
i pictured lots of other characters much more oddly-- i was in fourth
grade when i first read it and for some unfathomable reason, i thought
merry was a girl for the first three chapters!! so i pictured him
as a blond haired girl in a red dress with braids and rosy cheeks!!!!!
ahhh!! i still can't believe my own mind).
what was your initial response to pippin's character?
at first i thought that he was really funny and
i liked him a lot. after i finished the book, i thought he was really
funny and also brave and i liked him... a lot. what else is there to say??
what in his character do you like?
everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what do you dislike?
nothing!!!!!!!!!!
what do you consider pippin's strongest suit?
ahhhhh... this is hard... well, i think maybe that
he is able to still cheer you up (the characters in the book, or
the people reading the book) at the darkest times of the story.
what are his weaknesses?
he's too curious and he doesn't have that much experience
of the "outside world" at the beginning.
to what degree did pippin's tookish nature play into his leaving the shire? was pippin searching for something when he left, or was it purely to help frodo?
wait- are you really my language arts teacher in disguise??? kidding... i think he mostly wanted to help frodo, but i also think
that maybe he sort of wanted to go on an adventure. maybe he didn't
realize that he wanted to go on adventure- but he sort of subconsciously did.
what purpose did pippin have with the fellowship?
ahh! i have to go to my friends house (the one
i mentioned- she is sometimes known as legolas. yes, a girl.) and
i can't leave my computer on overnight and i will have to finish
this later!! sorry about that, i hope it doesn't mess anything up
by me not filling all of them in. so i will do the other half to-morrow. namarie!
lse says!
oh my god this survey was so awesome. i hope it gets compleated someday. sorry i couldn't wait to post it. have to strike when the iron is hot with me when it comes to updating.
hey, emily, don't knock it, it's a fabulous name. i should know i'm very familiar with it myself. think of all the awesome people who have borne it: emily dickinson and... emily brontë, lot of good writers, them emilys.
how is living in the shire? i've heard the location is ideal, but are the houses big enough? i live in neverland myself.
merry as a girl! too priceless, i love it. i think personally the story would have been much better if merry had been female. he and éowyn really then could have kicked the "girl power" theme into high gear. if it makes you feel better, when i first read the books it took me until rotk to figure out saruman and sauron were two separate entities.
i'm glad you're smitten with pippin, which reminds me, i have to add you to the list.
oh, the email address, i only ask because occasionally i'll email someone about their response or something.
hope you had fun at your friend's house!
oh. and p.s. yes, yes i am your teacher. see you in class monday. i now know all your secrets.
