yes, rotk is my favorite because everyone puts their emotions on their sleeves and battle for what is right.

have you seen the film versions? how many times? why?
yes... too many times, because i really enjoy them and they follow the books very closely.

is pippin your favourite character?
no, sam is my favorite, he just shows throughout the whole thing how good of a person he is and his will power and that he'd give his life to help his friend.

describe how you imagine pippin.
i see pippin as a bit of a youngster who's in a place he doesn't know, but very capable of learning and wanting to please others.

what was your initial response to pippin's character?
i thought pippin was a good lifting character, someone to bring your spirits up when the story is dark.

what in his character do you like?
i like his innocence.

what do you dislike?
his foolishness, but it makes for some funny scenes.

what do you consider pippin's strongest suit?
i think his honesty and curiosity are his strongest traits.

what are his weaknesses?
lol, his honesty and curiosity.

to what degree did pippin's tookish nature play into his leaving the shire? was pippin searching for something when he left, or was it purely to help frodo?
i think he was subconsciously searching for some adventure.

what purpose did pippin have with the fellowship?
he brought... hmmm, a breath of fresh air to the fellowship when things were down.

what would have happened if he had been left behind? how would he be different? how would the others be different?
i think that merry would not have gotten half as far, and i think that... well... i don't think they would have made it without him.

how does the grand adventure change pippin?
he matures a bit and learns from his mistakes.

was pippin unsure of himself at the beginning of the tale?
yes, because he had never been on that sort of adventure.

does pippin have a hero? who and why?
i think merry is his hero... and gandalf, because one is his best friend who would do anything for him and vice versa, and then gandalf is such a wise wizard that pippin learned much from.

describe how you see pippin's relationship with merry.
i think they were close when they were young... but i do believe that the quest brought them much closer because they saw many things for the first time together and went through some horrible stuff.

do you think merry was ever disappointed in his cousin (ie during the palantír incident)?
no, i don't think merry was ever disappointed with his cousin.

what do you think gandalf felt towards the young took? what was their relationship?
i think he felt that pippin was a fool... but a fool that would learn and they sort of had a father/son relationship in the way gandalf watched out for him towards the third book.

do you think gandalf was particularly hard on pippin? why?
no, i think he was stern enough to get the message across to pippin.

when the fellowship first meets galadriel it is said, "each had felt he was offered a choice between a shadow of fear that lay ahead, and something he greatly desired: clear before his mind it lay, and to get it he had only to turn aside from the road and leave the quest and the war against sauron and the others." what do you think pippin was offered?
i think pippin was offered the shire, with tons of fresh vegetables and good smoke weed.

what do you think boromir represented to pippin?
i think that boromir was a sort of protector of pippin, and i don't think he realized that until after he was gone.

how did the death of boromir affect pippin?
pippin was very upset, as was merry.

why do you think faramir so moved pippin?
because he was boromir's brother and he tried constantly to live up to his brothers dreams.

what do you think motivated pippin to swear fidelity to gondor?
i think he felt he owed that to gondor, since boromir died trying to save his life.

was it appropriate pippin ended up serving denethor, not théoden? why?
yes, because he learned much there.

when pippin was confronted with death during the battle before the black gates, how do you feel he reacted?
he was frightened...

how do you imagine pippin as a father?
as a very loving and playful father.

in the end, what do you feel pippin lost and what did he gain from his journey?
he lost his youthful innocence, but gained maturity and wisdom.

... when merry and pippin drink from the ent draughts and realize they've grown.

how do you think pippin was portrayed in the movie?
very young and curious.

many felt pippin in the film came off as "stupid," do you agree?
no... i think he came off as inexperienced.

did you think pippin's character was slighted in the two towers film?
... i felt there should have been more of him and merry... the ent parts of the book were much longer.

favourite scene or quote?
... when he sings to denethor in rotk.

which scene from the books which didn't make it into the film do you miss most?
... the house of healing, there was so much that went on there.

was the pippin of the films accurate to the pippin you imagined?
yes.

what do you most look forward to in return of the king?
hehe, already seen it, but i was looking forward to merry and éowyn defeating the nazgul king.

which scene are you most worried about?
... the confrontation at the black gates.

if you magically had the chance to change one thing concerning film pippin (be it action, line or trait) what would it be?
i would... let him be able to prove himself in battle.

oh hooray! some one whose favourite character who isn't pippin! sometimes i think as though people feel they have to put pippin for that question. i also adore sam so very, very much. when reading the novels i always followed frodo, sam and pippin the closest, but related to merry the most. har!
i think you're also the only person to list curiosity as a strength, very interesting! it could be a good thing, couldn't it? as well as bad. poor pippin.
