ernil i pheriannath: pippin's darker and serious side

lostsailors:
war is wrong. the most banal statement which can ever be said. sometimes i wonder, in a world where there is still so much beauty and goodness, how such an evil can still rise? humankind is supposed to be so advanced these days, but it isn't. it is the same as it always has been.
humankind is in a cycle. until it learns peace, love and equality, the cycle will continue. i have never really seen war, but the thought of it frightens me, makes me angry and above all else, breaks my heart to pieces. i don't want war, i don't want anyone to die or suffer, it's wrong.
yes. moving onward.
right, cranky elf! so right. pippin just goes to battle because he knows no other way. he believes it is simply what he must do, so why would there be any other option? perfectly put.
ah! the scarf! i remember hearing once... it may even have been from billy boyd talking about pippin's character... that in the film, pippin's scarf is very much like a security blanket. it's his one tie (no pun intended!) to the shire, to his home. he keeps it close to his person when he is off and far away in these strange war-torn lands, because he is afraid and he needs security. he needs his scarf to remind him of what he misses and what he has loved in the past so he may continue onward.
it's like taking a favourite childhood toy with you when you first leave home. you may not hug it and sleep with it every night, but when those times come when you are cold and alone and there is not a familiar face around for miles you can pick up your cherished item and hold it close. you can inhale its scent and remind yourself of your bed at home, or your family, or your friends and be comforted.
people endow objects with memory and feeling, i think this is what pippin does with his scarf. it his memory of home always with him.
note: grief! uofjc, thank you too! thank everyone here for the most wonderful book thread i have ever been part of! dedicated to pippin no less, it's a dream. ;_; <-- tears of joy.

palantir:
this really is an amazing thread... i love reading everyone's posts... i just have to pop in and say that every now and then.

este:
hey, just popping in also to say great thread. i really have nothing else to comment as you all have really told me a lot and i really have nothing else to say except that i enjoyed reading this discussion on my favorite hobbit!

pipkin sweetgrass:
pipkin s. runs into the room and gives crankyoldelf a big hobbit smooch. "thank you for sharing that, and know i honor you for your service." she sweeps off her pirate's tricorn hat and bows low.
having said this, can we save this thread? can someone move it to another site for archiving? how about at somethingtookish? it doesn't have to be active, just archived.

palantir:
yeah, i really don't want this thread to be lost, it's so amazing. sorry i can't help with that, but will someone save it so we can resurrect it later?

lostsailors:
hey hey! i was thinking the same thing pipkin s. store the ernil thread on ye olde pippin site (linked there below). it might make for good read for other fans. it was like it was meant to be, the ernil i pheriannath thread can live at the ernil i pheriannath site. ho ho!
what does everyone think? i have the space. i could archive the thread if everyone wants, i don't mind.
should we restart up the thread after the scouring? or shall we just move on though? the real question.

pipkin sweetgrass:
thank you, you darling thing! please do save it! then we can continue on without having to go over things again, although that bears doing anyway with new people coming in. still, i'd like it saved, and your place is perfect! and yes we should keep it, i've gotten a lot of good feedback on this thread and some have joined this forum only because of this thread.
"those are my principles. if you don't like them i have others." groucho marx " ... rofl! my politics lean toward lennon and marx... john lennon and groucho marx, that is!

herald7:
yay groucho! yea definitely try to save it!

lostsailors:
all right, i think i have all the text downloaded, i'll try to get it up and archived by next week. - someone else might want to save the thread as well, just in case something goes horribly amiss on my end though! ^^

cuddlehobbit:
i thank you sooo much, lse my darling, though i think just restarting it might be nice as well.

igotlancerpride:
*steps quietly into the thread* hey everybody i just wanted to leave my little mark. i have been reading this thread for a couple of days now and i loved how pippin is described and i wish i could say something smart and meaningful like that but i'll leave that up to you guys because you're so good at it, but i hope to see this post continued.

uofjc1983:
thanks lostsailors-- i live for this thread... if i wasn't so computer illiterate i'd save it, too! i thought bmg would only scour that which has been dormant for the last 3 or 4 months, but that shows just how much i know. long live ernil i pheriannath!!

cranky old elf:
hopefully the more active and intelligent threads (like this one) will not be included in the scouring. although we can always start this thread again, there's so much here that would be a crime to lose it.
cuio i pheriain anann! aglar'ni pheriannath!!

pearl took:
hi all!
try to carry it over, or start it anew, either way i think will be good. this had been (will be?) one of the best threads that has been on this site. i've thoroughly enjoyed reading and contributing to it.
hail ernil i pheriannath!
